Sublime Pineapples
Craig's Royal Hotel opened in my great grandmother's home town, Ballarat Victoria, in 1853 during the Gold Rush. It has hosted many celebrities such as Dame Nellie Melba, Mark Twain, members of the royal family and my friends Greg and Phyl who sent us this photo of the fabulous decor.

I love proper old hotels. I've not been to that one in Ballarat (on my list now), but have stayed in the spectacular Victorian (er, both senses!) hotel in Bendigo, the Shamrock. I didn't see any pineapples there, sadly. In this hotel, Dame Nellie Melba allegedly asked the hotel to get the GPO clock (opposite the hotel) to stop chiming as it was keeping her awake!
